Heart to Heart Quilting Ministry

Heart to Heart Quilts is a ministry started at First Church in November of 1999. We machine and/or hand quilt colorful quilts for children who are 17 years and under with catastrophic illnesses, difficult social situations, those from abusive homes, pediatric AIDS patients and premature infants. The first year, the group made and gave away 75 quilts to ill church members, Children's Hospital of Austin, Williamson County Child Welfare Board, PALS (Pediatric AIDS League), Seton Hospital and St. David's Preemie Units and other kids in crisis in central Texas. In 2001 this ministry was able to reach out to 86 children and added the Women's Crisis Center in Round Rock to the list of organizations to whom we donate quilts. In October this same year we gave ten quilts to children of New York firemen who died on 9-11.

First Church has supported Heart to Heart Quilts with prayer and by providing us a place to quilt each Thursday from 9:00 AM until 12 noon in the Bldg. #6 - Winstead House. The congregation has donated may yards of cotton fabric and supports us each year at our fundraiser for supplies and quilt batting.

We pray for the children to whom we have donated quilts and hope their quilt will bring them much comfort and joy. Our quilters are enthusiastic about their projects and there is a lot of love and creativity that goes into each quilt. We also have people in the group who work to assist quilters with the hand sewing of bindings and labels, and also iron and cut fabric.
