If you like to accomplish practical and necessary behind-the-scenes tasks which support and meet the needs of others, then these serving opportunities are for you. There are service and helps serving opportunities in a wide variety of ministy areas. We invite you to scan the list below to see what best fits with your interests, talents, and abilities. Serving opportunities are divided into the following categories: Worship Related Ministries, Classes and Special Events, Congregational Care Ministries, Church Office, Communications, Hospitality/Welcoming Ministries, Facilities/Landscaping/Carpentry, Mission and Outreach Ministries, and Worship Arts Ministries.
Worship Related Ministries

Communion Setup
Responsibilities include obtaining the bread and grape juice supplies for communion; set up the elements on the alter prior to worship service; clean up after worship service and return serving pieces to sacristy.
Communion server
Serve communion at the worship services. Assistance is needed in all worship service on the first Sunday of each month as well as for special services such as Christmas Eve and during Holy Week. We hope to build a list of volunteers large enough that someone would only need to serve once every three months unless they wanted to serve more often. Lay Readers Needed
Would you love to present the Scripture readings during our worship services on Sunday? We want to expand our roster of readers for the 8:30 am and 11:00 am services. Contact Dr. John Clifford (255-3336 or john@fumc-rr.org ) or Jana Rooke (rooke@earthlink.net ). We thank the wonderful readers that are currently sharing the word of the Lord with our church family.
Altar Guild Member
Prepare banners and paraments for use in worship service. Check supplies of candles and other items used in worship; replace as needed. Insure that baptismal font has adequate water. To volunteer to serve on a team that cares for the Sanctuary, contact Dr. John Clifford at 255-3336 or john@fumc-rr.org. To serve on the CrossRoads team for either the morning or evening services, contact Andy David at 255-3336 or andy@fumc-rr.org.

Classes and Special Events
Event setup/cleanup
Often for volunteer training, large meetings, and certain special classes it would be helpful to have a list of volunteers who like to set up the room (arrange sign in table, procure and set up refreshments (reimbursed for cost), clean up after event, etc. To volunteer to be “on call” for various event planners to call and request your help, please contact Wanell Soslow at 255-3336 or wanell@255-3336.
Congregational Care Ministries
Meals Ministry
Prepare and deliver meals for families who have just come home from the hospital or have other needs for a few meals. Or, prepare food items for receptions for those attending funerals at the church. The meal ministry uses a team concept so that the work is shared among many groups in the congregation. Write Notes/letters
Work with Congregational Care ministries to send notes of sympathy or to those who are ill or in a time of difficulty. Contact Dr. John Clifford at 255-3336 to volunteer to write letters/notes for the Congregational Care ministries.
Church Office
Office Volunteer
Assist with clerical tasks such as copying, folding, mailings, errands, etc. Flexible hours. On-the-job training provided. Contact Wanell Soslow at 255-3336.
Receptionist
This position is divided into morning and afternoon shifts for each day of the week. Duties include greeting visitors, directing them to appropriate staff or other resources; answering the phone, and assisting with clerical work such as data entry, filing, paperwork, and copying. Library Coordinator
Organize the contents of the church library; maintain records regarding the checking out of same; Contact Wanell Soslow in the church office at 255-3336.
Historian/Archivist
While there is an extensive and detailed history written for the church for the time period prior to the 1980s, there is a need to write the history from that period to the present. We are also in need of someone to properly maintain the historical records. Contact Wanell Soslow in the church office at 255-3336.
Communications
Graphic Designer
Develop logos, brochures, etc. for various groups/ministries within the church. Flexible hours; work from home; project-specific time frame (not on a regular basis but work periodically as projects are needed). Should someone want a more structured, larger commitment, they could volunteer to layout the monthly newsletter. This position would have to be able to work within the deadline constraints. Photographer
Several ministries within the church have need of photographers (Communications, Youth, Handbells, etc.) Work periodically as projects are needed; attend and photograph events; or work from a list of shots needed and gather the photos as your schedule allows. Photo editor
Work in Adobe Photoshop to color correct and edit photos in preparation of four color process printing in monthly newsletter or for use on the website and in brochures. Work for the newsletter would need to be done at a specific time in accordance with production deadlines. Other work would be on a flexible, project-by-project basis as needed. Work could be done from home if you have Adobe Photoshop. We also need to organize all of our digital photos on the church network. This would need to be done at the church office. Reporter/Writer – interview people, gather facts; write articles for the newsletter or write copy for brochures and other projects. Flexible hours; could be done from home; Contact Betty Robertson in the church office at 255-3336 or betty@fumc-rr.org.
Website Content – write, enter or edit content for website. Assist ministry leaders who are uncomfortable or don’t have time to update or create content for the website pages. Training will be provided and minimal computer skills are needed to learn and effectively use the software. Work can be done from any computer running Internet Explorer. Hospitality/Welcoming Ministries
Kitchen Team for Welcome Home
Prepare, serve, and clean – up the meal served every other month at the new member orientation called “Welcome Home.” We would like to have enough teams so that the commitment would be only two to three time per year. The event is held on Sundays with the lunch occurring following the 11:00 am service. Contact the church office at 255-3336.
Greeters
We have a wonderful greeter ministry. We could use a few more people as greeters for the upcoming three months. To volunteer, stop by the gazebo on Sunday mornings and fill out a registration form, or contact Amy Johnson at 670-9409 or amy_hj@sbcglobal.net.
Write Notes/letters
Work with the Welcoming Ministries to write notes or send postcards to visitors and new members. Contact Mendy Barnett at nbarnett@austin.rr.com or 989-9920 to volunteer to write letters/notes for the Welcoming Ministries.
Information Center Content Manager – keep track of the supply of brochures, arrange for more brochures to be made by office volunteers or staff; organize and straighten the information center(s) in preparation for Sunday Worship services. Connections Team Members Needed
A team is forming that will help members and regular visitors make a meaningful connection at First Church. Team members are needed for data entry, phone calls, and correspondence. We also need team members who could assist in the Connections Classes with interviews, analyzing inventories, and following up with people to insure they have found a meaningful connection. Facilities/Landscaping/Carpentry Ministries
Landscaping – adopt a specific flower bed or area of the landscaping and keep it maintained. Contact Mike Griffin at the church office at 255-3336 .
Outreach/Mission Ministries
Mission Trip member
Travel to the mission field (could be in the region, other part of the USA, or overseas) and perform tasks related to the particular mission. Watch for promotions about upcoming trips and contact the trip coordinator listed for that particular trip.
Sort Donated Materials
Sort clothes 2-3 hrs a month for the Church Under the Bridge ministry. Clothes are sorted the Friday before our visit in the FLC during the day around 2:00pm and then again from 8:30 am – 9:30am before our departure on the 2nd Sunday of each month. Sort and place items into Ziploc bags to create hygiene kits; time commitment is 1-2 hrs a month. Contact cub@fumc-rr.org or call Dan Rybaski at 789-4451
Pick up clothes
Pick up clothes and other items donated to Church Under the Bridge at different locations here in the Round Rock area and return them to the church. 1-2hrs a month: Contact cub@fumc-rr.org or call Dan Rybaski at 789-4451
Church Under the Bridge
Distribute clothes and other items directly to the homeless 4-5hrs a month, every 2nd Sunday of the month. We meet at the FLC by the kitchen and depart for CUB at 10:30am returning around 2:00pm Other opportunities include Directly help with the homeless Bible study and dinner from 6:00 to 9:00 at the Mission Possible Headquarters on Tuesday night’s (4-5 hrs a month). Worship Arts Ministries
Do you like to input data? The First Church Handbell Ministry needs a willing volunteer to input all of our music into a computer software management program. This project would be a big one, but has no deadline for completion. Can you help? Email Carla@fumc-rr.org.
