Serving Opportunities
Find a meaninful place to put your God-given gifts, talents, and resources to use in ministry. At First Church, we believe every member is a minister. Scripture tells us that all believers have been given spiritual gifts by the Holy Spirit. All are called to serve in a ministry for which God has uniquely equipped them.
Let Us Help You Find the Right Place
We want all of our members serving in a role that they find exciting and fulfilling. If you are unsure what ministry God is calling you to serve in, we are here to help. Click the link to find out how to get help. Take the Spiritual Gifts Inventory to find out how God has equipped you for ministry.
Read more about what spiritual gifts are and how they help us serve others by downloading the handout: An Explanation of Spiritual Gifts.
We Appreciate Our Volunteers!
We want to shine a Spotlight on our Volunteers! Stop by the church office during the week or the Information Center in the foyer of the Sanctuary on Sunday mornings and pick up a postcard that will be sent to volunteer you specify. Use it to write a brief note of appreciation to one of the many volunteers that I'm sure you've witnessed making a difference in the lives of others and sharing the love of God in Jesus Christ. We'll send the postcards out as Valentine's Day cards.
Or post a note online by clicking on the link below:
We will post the notes on the Heartfelt Thanks bulletin board located downstairs in Building 5. We'll also post the contents of the notes on the Spotlight on Volunteers page of the website. Be sure to check to see who has recognized YOUR ministry!
Volunteers are needed in the following areas:
Administrative Leadership
If you are gifted at leading people, casting a vision, have the ability to understand what makes an organization function, and have the ability to plan and execute procedures that accomplish the goals of a ministry, then you are well suited to the serving opportunities in the Administrative/Leadership section. Click the link to see a list of serving opportunities in this area.
Service/Helps
If you like to accomplish practical and necessary behind-the-scenes tasks which support and meet the needs of others, then these serving opportunities are for you. Click the link to the Service/Helps page to see a list of opportunities that are well suited to your gifts and talents.
Caring for Others
Our caring ministries are in need of people who are gifted at providing words of comfort, consolation, and encouragement to others going through a difficult time. There are places to serve where you can help bring wholeness—physical, emotional, and/or spiritual—to others. If God has given you the ability to feel deeply for those in physical, spiritual, or emotional need, and then act to meet that need, then we have a special place for you serving in our caring ministries. Click the link to the Caring for Others to see a list of serving opportunities that will utilize your gifts.
Teaching/Facilitating/Mentoring
Has God equipped you with the ability to understand, clearly explain, and apply the word of God in such a way that is clearly understood by others? Do you find it rewarding to assume long-term personal responsibility for the spiritual welfare of a group of believers by nurturing and guiding them toward on-going spiritual maturity. Then one of the serving opportunities listed on the Teaching/Facilitating/Mentoring page is probably well suited for you.
Worship and Worship Arts
Do you have special talents such as singing or playing an instrument? Are you comfortable reading scripture in the worship services? Would you like to assist with setting up the worship space, serving communion, or otherwise assisting in the worship services? Then click on the Worship and Worship Arts Serving Opportunites link for more information.
Technical Ministries
Do you have special skills related to computers, photography, video, or running a sound/light board? If so, we have numerous serving opportunities for which you might be well suited. Click the link to the Technical Ministries page for more information.
