Friends & Seekers Planning Retreat

Teaching/Admin Sub-Team

First United Methodist Church Round Rock

January 14, 2007 4:00-6:00PM

 Team Attendees: Norma Harvey-Slager, Jennifer Hall, Brad Harwick, Kellidawn Gilliland, and Rob Putney.

Additional Team Members: Pat Harvey-Slager, Jo Griffith, and Amy Bradfield.

Objectives:

  • Determine if 3 areas of study for Friends and Seekers are still valid for our class:

1. Biblical/Spiritual

2. Marriage

3. Children/Family

  • Identify 2 co-leaders for the F&S Teaching/Admin Team
    • Rob Putney & Brad Harwick.
  • Review material and topics for potential studies in the 2007 calendar year
  • Identify leaders for each of the following areas:

1. select, prepare and leading the sessions - All

2. order materials – Jennifer

3. organize schedules – All

4. suggest new topics/study material - Norma

5. determine “pot luck” questions & current event topics & witnesses - Brad

6. admin duty of collections, accounting of class funds, and attendance sheet – Brad, Rob

7. communicate to the Hospitality committee w/ the upcoming lesson calendar – Jennifer

8. determine method to gather feedback & consolidate feedback on teaching/session effectiveness - Norma

New idea: rather than current events, talk about what people have volunteered or been asked to do in FUMC RR and how it moved you along in your walk. Ask a few people in our class to bring an experience with them. Ask for volunteers as well as pick people we know can contribute.

2. Where F&S Plug In Life/Application

 3/18 Connections Overview investigate, talk to Laura N. 

3/25 Where current F&S are involved in the church beyond this class

4/1 Lent & Holy Week Review

3. “Parenting in the Pew”, Rob has book from Ann Morrison.

4. “Boundaries”, Rob has materials from our church library.

5. Amy has input on another potential class. Jo, any further ideas? We will get together as a teaching committee to further refine our teaching calendar. Likely will meet later in the first quarter (before the end of March).

The Five Love Languages of Apology, Gary Chapman.

Thanks to everyone that is participating in our Teaching/Admin team. This is an important activity that will enable our members to continue learning about and growing in God’s love.
