Some Things You Should Know Before Registering...

There is a high level of commitment expected of DISCIPLE participants. Please prayerfully consider the following information and decide if you are ready to make that commitment.

Weekly Class Meetings and Group Expectations 

Both the long-term and short-term classes have important components which make the groups so effective.

Classes meet weekly (long-term classes meet for 2 1/2 hours each session; short-term classes meet for 1 1/2 to 2 hours each session).

Preparation for each session is essential and includes daily readings as well as praying for your group. Attendance is a priority for group members—the expectation is that participants will not miss class except for rare occasions and for serious and unavoidable reasons. If your work or personal life is such that you do not believe you can faithfully attend the weekly meetings, please wait to take the class until you are able to make the necessary commitment.

The small groups are designed to foster strong, trusted friendships, which nurture the spiritual growth of the individual participants. A covenant is negotiated by each group to provide the nurturing environment necessary for that to occur. Each covenant is tailored to the individual group, but all contain the following basic elements: confidentiality, commitment to be prepared and faithfully attend class, respect differences of opinion and belief, and to pray for the group.

Orientation Session

The first class meeting will be an orientation session. At the orientation, group members will get acquainted with one another and the curriculum, negotiate the covenant, distribute workbooks, and take care of other essential items.

More Things You Should Know Before Registering...

• Class size is limited; registration is on a “first come/first served” basis. Your space in a class will be reserved when you return the Registration Form. However, your registration is not confirmed until you pay your registration fee!
• The fee is $55 for the traditional DISCIPLE classes, $65 for CHRISTIAN BELIEVER and Jesus in the Gospels, and $15 for the short-term classes . If your fee is not paid, your spot can be given to someone on the waiting list for your class!
• Priority will be given to members of First Church and participants of previous First Church DISCIPLE classes who have not yet taken the requested class.
• If the class is full, a waiting list will be started. In the event participants drop out prior to the second class, those from the waiting list will be added to the class.
• DISCIPLE I must have been successfully completed in order to register for other DISCIPLE classes and CHRISTIAN BELIEVER. At least three classes from the DISCIPLE program must be completed to register for Jesus in the Gospels.
• Childcare may be provided. Please ask when you register. If childcare is provided, the cost will be $75.00 per semester per family.
• A minimum number of participants is necessary for a class to be held. If the minimum number of participants fail to register, the class will be cancelled.
